cybikIn my first term here I made a necklace. I just discovered it hiding behind a painting and decided to take photos.
The first link was made by carving a line that ended with a loop into a cuttle bone and casting it in pewter. I cast a few more until the cuttle had been heated too many times by the molten metal and crumbled too much to be used. Afterwards I sand cast pieces, which means basically making the mould afresh for each link. I bent the ends up (very carefully), filed them and linked them together. I then bent each piece a little more so they wouldn't come to pieces, apart from one link that is used as the catch. Because of the way it was made all the links are slightly different.
As I'm posting anyway here's a bonus picture.
I don't have a mirror that isn't in a stupid place so I drew this from a photo. In general I really don't like drawing from photos because it makes everything look flatter, and there's something about the resulting drawings that make it obvious they weren't drawn from life. Oh, and my head looks a strange shape because I was leaning back a bit.
I keep meaning to buy a mirror so I can do self portraits more easily because there's no way I'm going to make anyone sit still for half an hour just so I can practise drawing. I'd like to do some more life drawing but most of the classes are fairly expensive - life models get paid a pretty good wage.
I spent some of this afternoon in the pub (my friend drank Pimm's, a sure sign of summer) and some playing frisbee. I feel contentedly decadent.
ETA: Oops, now I have slight sunburn on my arms. Clearly a sign that my normal habit of always wering long sleeves is the true path.
